I see now that it has been far too long since I posted a smoothie recipe. It is a sin that I have only posted two smoothie recipes, especially because I usually drink a new smoothie several times a week! This recipe is another green smoothie, but this time with pears and spinach. If you like green smoothies I recommend you check out my recipe for Apple Cinnamon Green Smoothie as well, that I posted a while back.
I am a big advocate of eating more vegetables, and I think that everyone would benefit from having a large green smoothie everyday. You can basically turn any of your favorite smoothie recipes into a green smoothie, just by throwing in some leaf spinach or kale. The only thing I would recommend you from doing is adding blueberries, as this will give the smoothie an unappealing shade of purplish grey (but if you are one of those who do not eat with your eyes, go ahead and try it, it tastes delicious).
On top of this smoothie I added in a few tablespoons of my Homemade Energy Boost Granola for added taste and texture.
Ingredients, makes 2 medium portions (or one large):
- 1/2 large banana
- 1 small-medium green pear (must be properly ripe)
- 2 cups leaf spinach
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- a squeeze of lemon juice
- A sprinkle of homemade energy granola (optional)
- Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until all the ice is properly crushed, and the smoothie is thoroughly mixed. If you are new to having green smoothies you can always just use half the amount of spinach I did, but I promise you that even with 2 heaped cups you will not taste it. Pour the smoothie into 1 or 2 glasses and optionally sprinkle on a few tbsp granola.
You can use any kind of leafy green that you like, but I always recommend using either spinach or stemmed kale. Not only are they the two most nutritious greens, but they have a very neutral taste and does not overwhelm the smoothie entirely.
I really hope you try out this recipe, and let me know if you did!
